Canif is the result of my bachelor graduation project. I started with the term Back to Basic which I defined as a experience-oriented lifestyle. When you are independent from materials, you become much more free and feel the ability to experience life. Taking this as a starting point I came across the metaphor with the Swiss Army knife. Both, the knife and the Back to Basic lifestyle are all about experiences and being small and compact. I used this metaphor to visualise the Back to Basic lifestyle into the house Canif, where experiencing is the main point of living.
The house is designed from a core where all the functions are stored. You can access these functions by pulling them out of the core. By creating a changeable house I made living a new experience. The spaces inside the house are changing physically as well as in light and view. By continuously changing the experience of the space, the house will not feel as small as it truly is.
